With the ongoing conflict in Ukraine displacing millions of people, there is a real and urgent need for humanitarian support.
Downer is committed to supporting the communities in which we operate, and we were pleased to join as a major sponsor of the Concern for Ukraine in Melbourne – doing our small part to support relief efforts in the region.
Hosted by The Rotary Club of North Melbourne, in collaboration with the Association of Ukrainians in Victoria, the event raised over $28,000 for The Rotary Foundation’s Ukraine Disaster Response Fund.
The fund provides grants to Rotary districts in and around Ukraine, enabling them to deliver urgent relief to refugees and victims of the crisis including food, shelter, medicine and clothing.
Held at the Melbourne Town Hall thanks to Downer’s support, the concert on Saturday 7 May saw more than 700 from around Melbourne come together to celebrate Ukrainian culture, learn more about the conflict and what they can do to help.
“The conflict in Ukraine has very real impacts across the globe, and on the families, friends and expatriate community here in Australia,” Downer Chief Operating Officer, Peter Tompkins, said.
“Downer is pleased to be able to support the Concert for Ukraine event and raise much-needed funds for the humanitarian relief effort.”
