My internship at Downer has given me insight into the diversity of this company. Hearing from others has made me realise the breadth of opportunities available - my experiences has been completely different to my peers and gave me an indication of the experiences available within this graduate program.
My advice for new interns would be to take advantage of the many opportunities that will come your way. For me, this was relocating to a different part of the country. which allowed me to grow professionally and personally. Saying yes and gaining as much experience as possible will help you when deciding to join the graduate programme and it will also help you to become a well-rounded engineer.
Downer provides an excellent working environment that encourages great leadership within its culture. The team are friendly and approachable and provide a caring and safe attitude, it's like a family. They offer great support with both internal and external development opportunities. All in all Downer is a good company with great values.
My summer internship was my first step into the world of contracting. The internship gave me the insight and time to observe and absorb knowledge from my colleagues. When I was starting out as a graduate engineer for the first time, I felt comfortable and confident as I already knew the Downer ways and what to expect. I had the connections in place and knew people I could ask for advice if I was ever unsure about something.
