In 2021 Downer joined Beyond Blue as its Major Partner, to help support the mental health of more people in Australia.

Beyond Blue works with the community to improve mental health and prevent suicide.

In recent years, Downer has implemented a range of initiatives to change the conversation around mental health, reduce the stigma associated with it and empower our people with strategies and activities to support their mental health and wellbeing. Our partnership with Beyond Blue will help us deepen this support for our people and also the community which has, during the COVID-19 pandemic, seen people reach out to Beyond Blue in record numbers.

This initiative is an important part of Downer’s philanthropic approach to supporting the communities in which we operate, and to our Zero Harm philosophy.

Beyond Blue supports the places where we live, learn, work and play to tackle stigma and discrimination and champion mental health and wellbeing. It provides information, advice and support to help all people in Australia achieve their best possible mental health and plays a lead role in the national effort to prevent suicide.

As the Matched Giving Partner for Beyond Blue’s national fundraising campaign, in 2021 Downer will also match donations given to Beyond Blue through the campaign up to a total of $250,000. If the total fundraising goal is achieved, this support will ensure that over 14,500 people will get access to support as they navigate pivotable times in their mental health.
