VEC showcases capabilities

19/06/2018

VEC Civil Engineering’s Ulverstone facility recently had the opportunity to showcase the work they do to Tasmanian Deputy Premier Jeremy Rockliff (MP) who is also the Minister for Education and Training, Infrastructure and Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries.

The Minister and his team were taken through VEC’s advanced precast and manufacturing facilities that brought to life the team’s vast experience in the design and construction of superstructures, t-beams and bridges as well as precast culverts. Structures that come out of the facility are used to build transport infrastructure across Tasmania and the eastern states in Australia.

“It was a pleasure to host the Minister and demonstrate our leading precast manufacturing capability of prestressed and conventionally reinforced concrete and steel structures required for bridge and infrastructure projects,” said Lincoln Bromwich, General Manager, VEC.

“We’re proud to be one of the first companies in Australia to make open top t-beams, a load-bearing structure used in construction, and were delighted to showcase the moulds and processes for producing them.

“The Minister was particularly impressed by our ability to design and construct bridges in a very short time, and usually with limited access, such as Kimberley Rail Bridge which crosses the Mersey River that was significantly damaged by floods in June 2016. In close collaboration with our customer, Tasrail, the work we did allowed the first train to pass over the Kimberley Rail Bridge just 36 days after the floods.

“The Minister also spent considerable time talking to a number of our workers from North West Tasmania.  There was a lot of discussion with our apprentices and the opportunities this provided the employees in their careers”

“The team, including our emerging talent and apprentices also enjoyed an informal BBQ lunch with the Minister before he departed.”
