The Queensland Government's Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) was established to meet the increasing demand for rail transport in South East Queensland over the next 10 years. 

The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program will support South East Queensland's population and economic growth, as well as Cross River Rail and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In June 2023, Downer was awarded the contract to deliver QTMP.

The contract with Downer includes:

• manufacturing 65 six-car passenger trains
• building a manufacturing facility at Torbanlea, in the Fraser Coast region to build the new fleet
• building a new rail facility (for train maintenance and stabling) in Ormeau in the Gold Coast region
• operating and maintaining the fleet and rail facility in Ormeau.

Located at 229 Adelaide Street, Maryborough, Queensland, the Project Information Centre is open between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 12pm on the first Saturday of each month. 

The project information centre is an immersive experience where you can learn about our rail history in Maryborough, what the QTMP is all about, and the train design. There is also a dedicated area for kids with interactive activities, and our very own Build the Train game.
