Downer is committed to improving gender diversity by increasing female participation in the workforce, and we have been a Work180 endorsed employer since 2019.

Downer aims to progress towards our medium-term gender diversity targets, which include:

  • 40% of women in the workforce by 2023
  • 25% of women in management positions by 2023
  • 25% of women in executive positions by 2023
  • 30% women on the Board by 2023.

One of many initiatives to help Downer progress towards its gender diversity targets is the launch of our first Group-wide female empowerment and capability building program, THRIVE in 2021. THRIVE was launched in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and will welcome its second cohort of participants in February 2022.

We acknowledge First Nations People and their communities are key to establishing positive outcomes and legacies where we deliver work. Downer aims to progress towards our medium-term target of 3% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees in our Australian workforce and 11% Māori employees in workforce in New Zealand. 

Downer’s vision for reconciliation is one where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are treated equally in all relationships and their cultures and histories are celebrated and respected. We work closely with community organisations to support the Indigenous community, and proactively develop policies and procedures that empower our Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori employees.

In New Zealand, Downer has been accredited with The Rainbow Tick – which is awarded to organisations that successfully demonstrate support and inclusion of the LGBTIQ+ community.

We believe that people living with disabilities and neurodiverse individuals have the right to be fully participating members of our society, on an equal basis with everyone.
