Downer is proud of our more than 80-year history as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of power industrial boilers.

We have internal capability to provide technical specialists and support, including boiler spare parts as part of the global Mitsubishi Power group. 

We draw on our strength and experience in thermal generation asset maintenance to offer services for boilers and Balance of Plant (BOP). 

We provide specialist services on the following equipment:

  • Insulation and cladding.

Since 2015, Downer has completed five boiler economiser and reheater retubes, and over 1.5 million man-hours on air heater outages. Our depth of experience, OEM partnerships and skilled people position us as a leading provider of boiler and balance of plant services in Australia.

 

BHP Olympic Dam

In 2021, Downer was awarded a contract by BHP to provide maintenance and shutdown services at Olympic Dam in South Australia. Downer will deliver services including refurbishment and overhaul of the Waste Heater Boiler, as well as other non-hot metals specialist work. More than 350 Downer staff will be employed at the peak of the works, undertaking some of the largest and longest shutdown events in Australia.
