David Overall
Chief Executive Officer, Dower Mining
David joined Downer EDI in January 2009, and has held senior management roles and directorships around the world in the infrastructure, engineering and resources industries.
He has managed a diverse range of major projects and operations in Australia, New Zealand, United States of America, Russia and South East Asia - including the NZ Steel Cogeneration project and the Ok Tedi Stage II copper phase in Papua New Guinea.
He has also held senior positions in process engineering, mergers and acquisitions, and environmental, health and safety compliance.
David holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and a Master of Business Administration. He is a Certified Practicing Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia.
Peter Kerr
Chief Financial Officer, Downer Mining
Peter joined Downer EDI Mining in January 2009 and, prior to his current role, held the positions of Acting Chief Financial Officer and General Manager Business Planning & Analysis.
Prior to joining Downer EDI Mining, Peter held a range of senior finance and commercial management positions within the contract mining sector in Australia. In total he has more than 17 years' experience in mining and contract mining, including substantial periods with Henry Walker Eltin and most recently with Macmahon.
He has a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
Peter Newman
Executive General Manager HSE, Risk, Human Resources and Underground
Peter has 30 years’ experience in underground and open-cut mining in coal and metalliferous operations in South Africa, the UK and Australia.
He joined Downer EDI Mining in May 2000, and held previous positions as General Manager Underground and General Manager QPAC, prior to his recent appointments as Executive General Manager HSE in February 2008 and Executive General Manager HSE, Risk, Human Resources and Underground in 2009.
Prior to joining Downer EDI Mining, he held various senior operational positions, including Mine Manager roles for 10 years with BHP, QCT, and Shell.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from London University, Imperial College. He is an Associate of the Royal School of Mines, a Member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Kurt Baumgart
Executive General Manager Eastern Region
Kurt has had 20 years' experience in the mining and construction industries within Australia, predominantly with Downer EDI Mining. He has worked in both metalliferous and coal mining, including the provision of mine infrastructure projects.
He joined Downer EDI Mining as a graduate in 1991, progressing to Project Manager Mining and Civil Projects before leaving in 1996 to pursue new opportunities. He returned to the company in 2002 after working in various civil construction roles for Abigroup, Baulderstone Hornibrook and City of Boroondara.
Prior to his appointment to his current position in 2007, he held the roles of Project Manager for the Roche Thiess Linfox Joint Venture (RTL) Morwell River Diversion, General Manager Roche Eltin Joint Venture and General Manager Open-Cut West.
Kurt holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons) from Swinbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne.
Mike Sutton
Executive General Manager Western Region & Otraco
Mike was appointed in April 2010 to focus on the company’s expansion in the West, as well as opportunities in the Northern Territory and South Australia. Based out of the Perth office, he also oversees Otraco international, Downer EDI Mining’s tyre-management business, in Australia and internationally.
He has over 15 years’ experience in the Australian mining industry, with a particular focus on iron ore in Western Australia. He has held senior roles with both mining and contract mining companies in Australia and overseas, including HWE, Plutonic Gold, Normandy Mining and Western Mining Corporation.
Mike was also previously a Director of Ngarda Civil and Mining, which provides an avenue for Indigenous employment and involvement in mining activities in the Pilbara region.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Danny Boyling
Executive General Manager Plant
Danny has over 30 years’ experience in the cost-effective, efficient and safe management of large construction and mining plant and equipment fleets, both in Australia and Asia, to support core company contracts, projects and service operations.
Danny started his association at Downer EDI Mining in the seventies, spending 14 years as Plant Engineer and Plant Manager, before taking up a series of senior plant roles with Caterpillar, Westrac, Leighton in Australia and Asia, HWE and John Holland.
He rejoined Downer EDI Mining as Executive General Manager Plant in May 2009.
Danny holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and a Diploma in Business Administration from Swinburne College, Victoria. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia (CP Eng) and a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers International.
Cliff Gale
Executive General Manager Blasting Services
Cliff joined Downer EDI Mining nine years ago and, prior to his current role, held the position of Commercial Manager for Blasting Services.
He previously worked in a range of finance positions in the United Kingdom and Australia.
Cliff has a Bachelor of Commerce from Auckland University, New Zealand.
